Why Just Grades 5-8?

Mack & Bell Adventures is designed specifically with students in grades 5 through 8 in mind – a time when curiosity deepens, critical thinking begins to flourish, and kids are ready to connect the dots across subjects in meaningful ways.

But what does that actually mean?

We design each adventure to align with Canadian curriculum goals typically introduced and explored in grades 5 through 8. That means:

• Relevant topics: Our content maps closely to themes in social studies, science, language arts, and mathematics as they appear in most Canadian provincial curricula – with a special emphasis on Canadian geography, history, and civic understanding.
• Developmentally appropriate: Lessons are crafted for learners who are ready to move beyond memorizing facts and start thinking in systems, making connections, and asking “why” – not just “what.”
• Challenging but accessible: Activities, vocabulary, and concepts are designed to stretch students’ thinking without overwhelming them. We scaffold complex topics using story, visual explanations, and exploratory activities that let kids learn at their own pace.
• Multi-disciplinary learning: Each module weaves together multiple subjects to show how knowledge fits together in the real world – just like kids do at this age when they’re starting to think across boundaries.

Who It’s For

Students in grades 5–8 are our core audience, but we’ve also heard great feedback from:

• Enthusiastic grade 3s and 4s who are strong readers and ready to explore deeper ideas,
• Curious grade 9s to adults who still love story-based learning, and
• Parents, guardians, and educators who want Canadian content that encourages critical thinking, creativity, and joy in learning.

• Think abstractly and reason logically,
• Explore identity, justice, fairness, and community,
• Ask deeper questions about the world and their place in it, and
